AxMxP turn K-Pop stillness into structure on “24 Hours”

"24 Hours" by AxMxP, distributed via FNC Entertainment on June 24, 2026, is less a manifesto of arrival and more of continued progression. Distributed about five months after the digital single "Amplify My Way," the song locates the artist in an intermediate space of identity in which neither presentation nor stabilization occurs but, rather, expansion in terms of tonal shift. While in the entertainment industry comebacks are usually characterized as escalations, in this case AxMxP presents us with a work marked by reduction, where there is no place for immediacy but only for sustained atmosphere.

The central idea behind "24 Hours" is that of re-imagining the ordinary as the emotional framework of the work. The narrative starts at the artificial light of a night convenience store and expands out to the symbolic time period of an entire day. Instead of building a plot, "24 Hours" constructs the condition of closeness, the desire of being beside someone else transforming from an act to a state of being. The convenience store, usually considered as an architectural non-space, becomes the emotional foundation of the track. The fluorescent light inside the store operates as the border and the witness of ephemeral human connections.

Musically speaking, the song places itself in the context of an eclectic genre that borrows from the hip hop and R&B traditions, is tempered with the guitar playing that evokes the bossa nova tradition, and is based on a controlled approach to rhythmic construction. Instead of abrupt breaks and structural unpredictability, the recording employs a seamless flow that reflects the conceptual construct of the song. Instead of the song being constructed around high points, it becomes an uninterrupted space in which rhythm, melody, and vocals interplay without breaks.

AxMxP's songwriting process demonstrates a collaborative system comprised of HAN SEONG HO, Seo Yongbae, Minos, Rapid, rockchain, and Jacob Aaron of THE HUB, where arrangements are done by Rapid and rockchain. The involvement of member Ha Yoo Joon in writing lyrics highlights one particular aspect of AxMxP's creative identity: an internally integrated system of authorship, wherein the members do not act merely as performers of material externally created for them but are rather participants in the storytelling process as well. In the context of FNC Entertainment, this is how AxMxP fits into the tradition of band-oriented production systems.

While “24 Hours” is remarkable for many reasons, its unique character emerges not from the way in which it was made, but from its departure from the established principles of singles in K-pop. Not only does “24 Hours” refuse to escalate, but the song does not contain any climaxes in terms of hooks and is not constructed around performance segments – all of which creates the equilibrium of mid-tempo music prioritizing consistency over emotional outbursts that are typical for K-pop songs.

The vocals of “24 Hours” emphasize restraint as opposed to projection. The members use an approach to tonal qualities that implies the presence of voices inside the instrumental space rather than on top of it. It is a strategy that correlates with the overall aesthetic direction of the song, as the emotions are not expressed in a dramatic manner but are conveyed through continuous narration.

The lyric framework embodies the same principle of simple yet controlled lyrics. Instead of creating an elaborate system of metaphors, this type of composition focuses on the clear and straightforward expression of emotions through personal experiences. The symbol here is the convenient store that is not altered into anything fancy and extraordinary; instead, it is simply left as it is, in its plainness. In this plainness, emotional energy appears through repetition and closeness, rather than through complicated language. The expression “24 hours” does not imply time itself but rather becomes an eternal circle, linking individual moments into one emotional flow.

Visually, the music video continues this idea, transforming it into cinematic imagery. The convenient store becomes a space and time of transition between the reality and fantasy. The urban night turns into a soft sequence of images that do not necessarily have to be related to each other. According to promotional information by FNC Entertainment, this piece of cinematography falls under the language of atmospheric realism, wherein the city itself is not seen as the background but rather as the means of expressing the emotion.

Notably, “24 Hours” exists in an ambiguous space. Indeed, the piece is often cited for being coherent, in that there is a congruence between concept, production, and aesthetics that results in the creation of a cohesive aesthetic object, rather than a disjointed collection of musical elements. However, this very coherence is precisely what makes the piece less volatile. Indeed, “24 Hours,” in assessments made under The Bias List and elsewhere, is seen as being immersive but subdued enough to be memorable. The work is valued for its continuity rather than its hooks.

However, the fact that the work can be simultaneously described as both coherent and subdues highlights a larger issue at stake in the realm of pop production. While Korean pop music continues to develop itself internationally through diversification of style, the economy of listening experience continues to center around expectations of immediacy, especially in the age of streaming services. Under this framework, AxMxP’s choice of atmospheric coherency over hook construction renders “24 Hours” a work of resistance.

In the overall development of AxMxP, the single can be seen as an expansion of the hybrid identity that was already there. After the relatively intense sound palette used in the song “Amplify My Way”, this new track offers something less intense but maintains genre mixing. The group identity is defined by its own structure of being a band, coming from their rock roots but being influenced by modern hip hop and pop music. What changes here is not the language itself but its expression, shifting from being volatile to stable.

The creation of the track follows the approach of collective creation, where the group creates together through rehearsing and working in the studio. Unlike the idols that are put together as separate performers, AxMxP appears as creators of a certain structure that gradually takes form through accumulation. This type of practice positions the group in the lineage of band systems derived from K-pop structure, where instrumental involvement becomes closer to idol system.

In an industrial sense, AxMxP is a hybrid idol structure and live band ecosystem. The involvement of this group in digital and live performance space demonstrates their double tactics – through streaming they gain exposure, but through performing live shows, they confirm their artistic authenticity. In the changing environment of the Korean popular music scene, it symbolizes a more general trend towards hybridization of the performance identity which is able to co-exist both in digital and physical worlds.

Thus, “24 Hours” could be seen as a song whose essence lies in the lack of climax. Through the structure, the production process, and the lyrics, it unites in its idea to extend the feeling of the present moment in time rather than concentrate it in one point. By doing this, AxMxP creates a song that corresponds with the global trends in the genre of atmospheric R&B and cinematic minimalism, but remains rooted in the infrastructure of K-pop band music production under FNC Entertainment.

This is neither a proclamation of an artistic identity nor a finalized product but rather a movement towards an identity that is ongoing. “24 Hours” is not trying to establish what the identity of AxMxP is in definite terms but rather a group that is involved in the process of refinement wherein the identity is not proclaimed but collected and music is more like the environment than a statement.
