82MAJOR redefines their identity with cinematic mini album FEELM

FEELM by 82MAJOR is a carefully thought-out statement instead of a typical comeback. This fifth mini album was released on April 28, 2026, at 6 PM KST via various international online music stores and streaming services by the record label of Great M Entertainment. While the past five years were marked by rapid growth, this mini album comes after the turning point represented by Trophy. Six months ago, this record broke all sales records by selling over 100,000 copies in just five days, allowing this sextet of Seongmo, Seokjoon, Yechan, Seongil, Seongbin, and Dongyun to redefine themselves in a fast-changing industry.

First, the very name of this group reveals their ambitions. 82MAJOR is the combination of South Korea’s international dialing code and an aspiration to be a world-renowned artist who will represent Korean culture worldwide. FEELM, the name of the album, is a combination of “feel” and “film”. However, this album does not tell a story but presents the audience with cinematic fragments where emotions play leading roles.

Such an explanation of the situation correlates with the understanding of the members of the current stage they have reached. Seongil stresses the degree of exactness needed for the process of preparation, explaining that there was more attention paid to practice and perfection in comparison with other projects. FEELM can be regarded as a new conceptual turn for the band after Trophy, and he is interested in how it will be accepted by both the fans and the general audience. The same feeling is expressed by Yechan, who sees FEELM as a certain period of change for the group. He admits that certain expectations have appeared after the success of the band recently. However, he interprets it as confidence rather than pressure.

The creative process used for FEELM embodies this change in outlook as well. According to Yechan, he was directly involved in production, including the songwriting, and views the record as being an even stronger statement about the musical identity of the group. Seongbin supports the notion of collective creative collaboration, stating that all of the members collaborated on the project from start to finish. Ideas, especially lyrics, were bounced off one another during discussions with producers, making up a creative process based on open dialogue and not a hierarchical structure. According to Seongbin, there is no unresolvable creative friction, as different points of view can be blended in conversation.

In spite of the dedication to the project, the members maintain a stable emotional state during its release as opposed to feeling any stress. Yechan says that he has never had trouble releasing his music, as he looks forward to seeing what people will think of it. Seongmo comments that being involved in the creation of a final product gives him an extra sense of pride. FEELM is constructed out of five separate tracks, namely W.T.F., Sign, CAGE, Circles, and YESSIR. All of them function as emotional units in their own rights but contribute to the atmosphere as a whole, which is characterized by contrasts and transitions.

W.T.F marks the beginning of the album with its jazz-influenced intro and the subsequent transition into an aggressive rhythm, thus laying the groundwork for the key principle underlying the album, that is, transformation as opposed to continuity.

Sign is the very name of the album and, hence, it represents the concept's core idea. Composed using the melodic base that features a subdued but distinctively recognizable hook, Sign explores emotions conveyed from one person to another through a process that implies movement without explicitly stated communication. This is one of the main points of connection between the song and the theme that characterizes the album as a whole.

CAGE features a rhythm pivot by virtue of its baile funk inspired construction. The song juxtaposes high energy percussive elements against emotionally rich melodic components, resulting in an interplay of bodily motion and emotional control. Circles comes next with a strong bass line and a more introspective and repetitive emotional construct. It moves at a lower energy level and functions as a point of suspension within the flow of the record. YESSIR ends the record with a house-inspired beat that features vintage sounds and adds outward energy back into the mix.

Yechan refers to the record as a whole as his own interest, emphasizing the significance of the record's cohesive nature. On the other hand, Dongyun singles out Face Time as his own choice, whereas Seongbin chooses Heroes as his pick due to its intimate lyrical content and relation to the band's internal dynamics.

In terms of vocals, FEELM represents moderation and tonal control. Throughout the record, the artists focus more on emotions than technique. Sign serves as an example of this principle, as the artist uses restrained vocal work to match his atmospheric production. Instead of highlighting powerful vocal delivery, the record constantly emphasizes the use of vocals in combination with other soundscapes. As a result, there is a consistent auditory persona established, focused on atmosphere rather than technique.

The group’s concept of performance has changed dramatically as well. Yechan differentiates between their current state and their past nervous and cautious attitude. At this point, he explains how they are prepared to perform because of their readiness and confidence. Seokjoon explains that during live shows, he usually discovers many new sides of himself, thus proving how experience changes an individual performer’s approach to collective performances.

That development has been further enhanced through international tours. In the last couple of months, the group visited various cities in Europe like London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Warsaw. According to Yechan, the international tour is one of the milestones in their careers as performers since it highlights the importance of experiencing new cultural atmospheres. Seongmo says that he wishes to spend some time in places like London in their next tours. In addition, Dongyun mentions how his experiences in other cultures have expanded the way he perceives performances.

According to Seongbin, audiences are different depending on the geographical region they come from, which has encouraged the artists to be culturally mindful in future productions.

Another aspect of their global success is that the artists have engaged in collaborations outside South Korea. They just finished working with Brazilian artist Melody in their latest collaboration. Seongil says that the experience was both meaningful and educative. Dongyun states that it was an honor for him to collaborate with another artist from a different part of the world. Moreover, according to Yechan, Melody was full of energy in the process of collaborating.

Recognition has been concurrent with their growth as well. At the Weibo International Entertainment Awards, 82MAJOR won the award for Potential Overseas Group of the Year, reflecting their growing prominence in the international market and placing them among the new generation of K-pop artists with global appeal.

Regarding future aspirations, the group's members have made it clear that they want to incorporate different genres into their repertoire. According to Seongil, he wants to experiment with conscious hip hop music. In addition, according to Yechan, he is keen on jungle and drum and bass music in combination with his existing interests in EDM and rap music production. Seongmo notes that he would like to pursue artistic ideas and designs with maturity. Yechan believes that the band still needs to exploit its full potential conceptually.

Strategically, Yechan sees the future self-production of their title song as an important objective, whereas Seongil stresses continuity, diversity, and consistency. Seongbin is also in agreement with this mindset, stressing that the band is still in the stage of forming a direction rather than their identity.

In this regard, FEELM should not be seen as the band’s finale but rather as a systematic progression. It reflects the moment when 82MAJOR is coming together artistically, internationally, and ideologically. FEELM does not offer any solutions for the band’s path forward. Rather, it offers a glimpse into how the band will find its way one feeling at a time.
